Since its formation in 1996, Belize Aquaculture, Ltd. (BAL), located on Blair Atholl Estate in the Stann Creek District of Belize, has focused on the research and development of shrimp culture practices that are environmentally sustainable.

BAL's ponds are located at a considerable distance from the coast line. Distancing our farm away from the sea eliminates the need to disturb mangrove forests or any coastal wetlands.

BAL's ponds use an inert plastic liner to stop salt water intrusion to ground water and to eliminate any possible contamination from the surrounding soil.
